Via Metropolitan Transit is expanding the availability of free wireless Internet service to encompass the agency’s entire fleet and facilities. This makes Via the largest public transportation provider in the nation to offer 4G LTE Wi-Fi service systemwide.
“This is an exciting time for Via as we announce that all of our buses and facilities are now equipped with 4G LTE Wi-Fi service as a free amenity for our riders,” said Via President/CEO Jeffrey Arndt. “This is a significant step toward expanding Wi-Fi throughout our system. As the first large public transportation provider in the nation to begin complimentary, systemwide 4G LTE Wi-Fi service, Via is proud to offer these enhanced amenities for our customers. Riders are now able to access reliable 4G LTE Wi-Fi service everywhere Via goes, allowing them to stay connected throughout the day.”
Via’s expanded 4G LTE service provided in partnership with Verizon and Cradlepoint is an enhancement over the previous 3G wireless service available on express routes, the Primo route, and 11 transit centers. Now the improved and expanded service is available on all bus routes and Via properties, and it will also be available on VIAtrans paratransit vans by Nov. 1.
“San Antonio remains committed to being a world-class city and certainly, transportation and technology are two important components of great cities,” said Henry Cisneros, chairman of the board of the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce. “Via’s addition of free Wi-Fi services throughout their fleet and all facilities complements recent technological advances in the San Antonio area, allowing Via customers to enjoy additional conveniences and amenities as they travel throughout our region using public transportation.”
