Masabi and Transdev the private operating partner of the Regional Transit Authority on Nov. 12, announced that they have deployed mobile ticketing citywide in New Orleans across bus, ferry and streetcar services. The deployment will let riders use their smartphone to purchase, store and display tickets for immediate and future travel, meaning RTA riders in New Orleans will no longer need to wait in line for tickets at vending machines or ticket offices.
The deployment will expand retail options for the RTA’s customers, allowing them to buy tickets anywhere, anytime. This innovation will be useful for both residents and tourists by expanding ticketing options, especially during major events.
Masabi’s JustRide platform is a cloud-based end-to-end mobile ticketing and fare collection system. It comprises apps for ticket purchase, display and inspection together with back-end infrastructure for secure payments, ticket management, customer service, reporting and real-time analytics.
The app can be downloaded for free from Google Play and App Store. Once installed, riders can securely purchase tickets in seconds from their smartphone using all major credit or debit cards. The ticket will then be downloaded onto the smartphone for immediate activation or can be stored for future use.
“We are delighted to be working with Masabi to bring mobile ticketing to a range of different transport modes in New Orleans. Augustine, III, vice president of Transdev. “Riders can now purchase a ticket from anywhere, and at any time for bus, ferry or streetcar, making waiting in line to buy a ticket a thing of the past.”
“Masabi is excited to be working with Transdev to make a difference to the New Orleans transit experience,” said Joshua Robin, Masabi’s vice president for North America. “In deploying our mobile ticketing technology we are bringing cutting-edge innovation to riders of the city’s transit network. We designed the JustRide platform to deliver a premium ticketing experience to multi-modal ticketing agencies of all sizes and this deployment provides an excellent example of this in action.”
