On March 31, 2016, Port Authority of Allegheny County's IT Department detected that malware had been introduced into the agency’s internal computer system.

Port Authority began remediation procedures less than two hours after the malware was discovered, and steps were taken to secure the system, remove the malware, and assess whether any personal information was compromised or stolen.

Port Authority then also contracted a firm that specializes in computer forensics. A full analysis of the computer system by that firm revealed no evidence that any personal information of Authority employees or patrons that was stored by the Authority on its computer system had been compromised.
