The Digital Signage Federation (DSF) invites DSF members and non-members alike, to attend its Thursday, August 18 “Hangout” panel discussion at 2:00 p.m. EST, which will address Art on the Big Screen in the New York City Subway.

The Fulton Center Art Project, produced by MTA Arts & Design, won an Apex Award at DSE 2016 and is just one of the innovative digital signage art projects developed to enhance the New York City transit environment. “The art within Fulton Center is a key element in creating a renewed sense of place for lower Manhattan. It is extremely gratifying to watch people walk into the space illuminated by the reflective net with looks of amazement on their faces, and then immediately start to take photos of the spectacle of ‘Sky Reflector-Net,’” said Yaling Chen, project manager of MTA Arts & Design.

Hangouts are 45-minute panel discussions using Google’s Hangout platform with a moderator and a panel of three or four industry professionals.

The panel discussion will be led by New York City MTA Arts & Design professionals:

  • Amy Hausmann, Deputy Director, MTA Arts & Design
  • Yaling Chen, Project Manager, MTA Arts & Design

In addition to discussing the Fulton Center project, the panelists will provide a brief history of the MTA’s Digital Art Program and address questions such as:

  • How did the Digital Art Program get started?
  • Where does the program intersect with digital signage?
  • How large is the display you implemented and what were some of the challenges you faced when implementing the digital signage?
  • What were some of the lessons you learned from the project that you will improve for future art projects?

More information on the August 18 Hangout event or other DSF events can be found on the DSF website. Both DSF members and non-members may join these, or any of the DSF’s scheduled Hangout conversations for free – but registration is required and can be accessed on the “DSF Event Web Page” of the DSF website at http://digitalsignagefederation.com/hangouts.
