Transportation Asset Management Council Launches Mobile‐friendly Interactive Map
The Michigan Transportation Asset Management Council (TAMC) has released a new mobile device version of their interactive map featuring road and bridge conditions. This effort was the next phase in the redesign of the TAMC website that was initially launched in March 2016. The new mobile application allows the internal Global Position System (GPS) in cellphones and tablets to use their current location in identifying nearby past and current road and bridge conditions. It also allows the user to navigate or search across all other areas of Michigan. The interactive maps include additional layers of information and attributes such as traffic volumes, pavement types and bridge structure identifications.
The website address is www.Michigan.gov/TAMC, where clicking on the Interactive Map link from their phone will take users to the new mobile version.
The TAMC website overhaul was undertaken to improve functionality and incorporate more educational and interactive content. The new site features numerous training opportunities, biographies of TAMC members, enhanced committee pages, and additional access to meeting agenda packets, past annual reports and TAMC conference information.
Dave Jennett, technology project manager for TAMC support staff, said, “The (TAMC) website was first designed in 2006, and has been long overdue for a rewrite. Technology changes at a rapid pace and we needed to update to get ahead of the curve. The new website allows TAMC to take advantage of many new modern features to add higher quality content and an overall much better user experience.”
The website update and launch of the mobile application are viewed as key pieces to TAMC’s mission of supporting excellence in managing Michigan’s transportation assets. The two projects provide avenues towards promotion of asset management principles and giving tools to local agencies and other interested parties in managing and sharing their data collection efforts.
