Coordinated by the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada, all six Southern Nevada jurisdictions recently adopted a unified “Southern Nevada Smart Community Vision”.

Coordinated by the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada, all six Southern Nevada jurisdictions recently adopted a unified “Southern Nevada Smart Community Vision” to help guide the introduction of technological solutions that seamlessly interact and complement each other, regardless of jurisdictional boundaries.

The “Southern Nevada Smart Community Vision” helps provide a blueprint for continued coordination and cooperation among the RTC, the Nevada Department of Transportation, local entities, and other public-sector agencies like the Las Vegas Valley Water District as they work with various private-industry companies to leverage advanced technology to build a smarter and more connected Southern Nevada.

The vision incorporates the concepts of safety, inclusivity, user-friendliness and resource efficiency to accomplish three goals:

  • Livability: Measures a community’s quality of life via built and natural environments, economic prosperity, social stability and equity, access to quality education, and cultural, entertainment and recreational opportunities.
  • Workability: Reflects a world-class infrastructure that seamlessly and consistently delivers services to users and enables global competitiveness for jobs and investments.
  • Sustainability: Reduces resource consumption with improved planning and efficient asset use.
  • The region came together to adopt the vision to:
  • Increase public sector efficiency by providing access to crucial and diversified information to optimize deployment and quality of services.
  • Facilitate economic growth to improve workforce development, deploy innovative and effective infrastructure, and use enhanced data to better deliver products and services.
  • Improve residents’ quality of life to ensure access to resources and services, offer secure and private interaction, bridge digital divide, build trust in the public sector and improve safety.

The jurisdictions that adopted the vision include Boulder City, Clark County, Henderson, Las Vegas, Mesquite and North Las Vegas. The RTC convened the jurisdictions to create this forward-thinking plan given its role as Southern Nevada’s transit, traffic management and transportation planning agency, as well as serving as the administrator of Southern Nevada Strong, a regional plan to build complete communities.
