Blossom I. Albuquerque, 28, has been in transit for three years, but before working in the field, she has been someone who used it in her daily life.
Albuquerque likes to travel and uses transit when going abroad. She also used it to commute while as a student at San Francisco State University and to visit family and friends. Getting on Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) is how she gets into San Francisco.
Albuquerque is management analyst for the chief operating officer for the Alameda-Contra Costa Transit District in the San Francisco Bay Area. Her job entails looking into data and breaking it down for presentation, so leaders can make decisions to enhance the system.
It was a new position without much direction, so Albuquerque had to determine how it should collect and present information in order for leaders to make informed decisions. Albuquerque said it has been a challenging task that allowed her to use her creativity and skills, which has made it fulfilling and empowering position.
Albuquerque also developed the agency’s first performance and status report with goals and trends for more than 25 performance indicators in the transportation and maintenance departments. She also engages front line staff on performance information to engage them in improvement.
Albuquerque monitors monthly expenses and provides financial reports for each department. By monitoring the data, she helped reduce overtime expenses by 35 percent and road supervisor expenses within the operations center control department have been reduced by 60 percent.
