Mass Transit Weekly Update 6/3/2016

June 3, 2016
This week's update features videos from the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA), The Rapid, Metropolitan Tranist Authority of Harris County (Metro), Valley Metro and the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans).

The Chicago Transit Authority has announced the creation of the Heritage Fleet program, an effort to preserve and celebrate more than 100 years of history of the CTA and its predecessor companies. The Heritage Fleet program was designed to ensure that vintage buses, rail cars and equipment are properly maintained and stored, and that the historic vehicles continue to be used for charters and other public events.

The Rapid and Fox 17 Grand Rapids have a Thrifty Thursday video series, which not only highlights how public transportation can save riders money, but also promotes local businesses.

Metropolitan Tranist Authority of Harris County (Metro) showed how easy it is to use its Q Mobile Ticketing app, rather than purchasing tickets and worrying about cash, riders can use their smart phones.

Fox 10 Phoenix rode along on Valley Metro’s Vanpooling service, catching a ride to work and highlighting the benefits of an easier commute and an overall reduction of traffic.

In the latest Caltrans News Flash Director Malcolm Dougherty along with his executive team and cycling stakeholders ride through downtown Sacramento and West Sacramento to highlight how the Department is making significant moves to embrace and promote biking, walking and people-friendly streets.
