TransIT Partners with Public Libraries for Wandering Book Campaign
TransIT has partnered with Frederick County Public Libraries to introduce a “Wandering Book” program which will begin this August. The program is a development of the Maryland Humanities Council’s One Maryland One Book program which encourages all Maryland residents to read the same book. Books were hidden throughout various TransIT routes on Connector buses while clues were distributed on the TransIT and FCPL Facebook pages. Each book will include an insert that explains the program and encourages passengers to take the book, read it and pass it to a friend, neighbor or fellow bus rider to do the same.
This joint venture will support FCPL’s mission to “provide facilities and an environment which connects people to ideas, experiences and information.” “The Maryland Humanities Council is delighted to partner each year with organizations like the Frederick County Public Libraries and TransIT to bring Wandering Books to communities across the state,” said Andrea Lewis, coordinator of One Maryland One Book. “It offers a great way to both promote One Maryland One Book and to engage new audiences who may not previously have been aware of the program or our efforts to bring people together through a common interest — their love of reading.”
The 2015 One Maryland One Book theme is "Sports: the human drama of athletic competition," offering readers across the state a chance to delve into the triumph and tragedy of competition during the Maryland Humanities Council’s fall programs. This year’s book is The Boys in the Boat: Nine Americans and Their Epic Quest for Gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics by Daniel James Brown, a New York Times Bestseller.
Clues and books were distributed beginning Aug. 28.
