DDOT Announces Winners of Photo Contest
The District Department of Transportation on Jan. 6, announced the winners of the DC Circulator’s 10th anniversary “RidePlayWin” photo challenge. The contest encouraged riders to take the DC Circulator beyond the work commute and post photos to Facebook.
Each of the winners won multiple prizes from 20 businesses in the DC area, and one winner, Michael Halpern, claimed the grand prize, a private DC Circulator bus experience for up to 25 people. Halpern and his friends will enjoy a pop-up party, including music and refreshments, with a staged DC Circulator bus at the location of his choice within the District.
“It’s exciting to see more and more people using multiple types of transportation to get around the city, especially now that buses can carry bikes,” said Halpern. “I hope that our contest entries demonstrated that the DC Circulator can help make any day fun.”
The “RidePlayWin” photo challenge allowed contestants to engage and interact with their personal networks.
“My friend Stephen and I entered the contest together, and contacted everyone we could — our families, our soup cooperative, even our ultimate Frisbee team,” said Halpern. “It was a true team effort.”
The grand prize winner was selected by earning the most “likes” across all owned photo submissions uploaded to the DC Circulator page. The winner needed to submit at least three daily photo entries to qualify for the grand prize.
Melinda Contreras, Peter Sacco and Amsley Pietranton earned various daily prizes with a total value of more than $3,000. Daily prize winners were selected by the public who voted on their favorite entries by “liking” the photo on the DC Circulator Facebook page. The contest generated nearly 1,000 votes from the public.
The “RidePlayWin” photo challenge was also designed to showcase the many places DC Circulator services. From restaurants to shops, gyms to museums, the DC Circulator’s six routes connect rider to the places they want to go, beyond the work commute.
