Fareless Friday Puts Riders in the 'Black' on Black Friday
For shoppers looking to save money this holiday season, riding public transportation may be the answer. For the second year, the Nashville MTA and Regional Transportation Authority of Middle Tennessee (RTA) are offering free rides on all MTA and RTA buses and the Music City Star the Friday after Thanksgiving, traditionally known as “Black Friday.”
Last year, Nashville MTA and RTA experienced record weekday ridership on Fareless Friday, and officials are anticipating the same for this year. The routes to and from the area shopping malls had the highest number of riders.
For those wishing to take advantage of free rides to local malls, the following list will tell riders which MTA bus routes will take them to the shopping mall of their choice.
In addition, a reverse commute shopping day in Lebanon is being planned by the City of Lebanon and the Lebanon Chamber of Commerce for those riding the Music City Star from Nashville.
The free rides also include RTA express bus services which operate in Murfreesboro, Smyrna, La Vergne, Clarksville, Pleasant View, Joelton, Springfield, Franklin, Brentwood, Gallatin, Hendersonville, Thompson’s Station and Spring Hill.
Service for both MTA and RTA will begin early Friday morning on November 28 and end when the buses and regional train complete their final runs late Friday night.
