RTD Board Names Dave Genova Interim General Manager
The Regional Transportation District (RTD) Board of Directors has officially named David Genova interim general manager, following the announced departure of outgoing General Manager Phillip A. Washington. Washington, who submitted his resignation in March 2015, will officially leave his RTD post on April 15 to assume the helm of the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro).
“I am so pleased we have a strong leadership bench from which to select the interim general manager, thanks to the long-term investment RTD has made in developing our outstanding leadership team,” said RTD Board Chair Charles “Chuck” Sisk. “Our focus is on maintaining the continuity, stability and health of RTD, as we continue to complete four new rail lines and the US 36 Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) in 2016. Dave will provide us with that leadership, as well as the ongoing management of our base business operations.”
Genova currently serves as assistant general manager of safety, security and facilities and was designated by Washington as his successor in the staff succession plan. Genova has been with RTD for more than 21 years, serving RTD since 1994 as the assistant general manager of safety, security and facilities for eight years and prior to that was the senior manager of public safety for 10 years. He brings extensive leadership experience from throughout the agency, including overseeing safety certification for rail line openings and the newly renovated Denver Union Station.
Genova is a nationally-recognized industry leader serving on several national committees including: an appointment by the U.S. Secretary of Transportation to the DOT Federal Transit Administration Transit Rail Advisory Committee on Safety; Chair of the American Public Transportation Association’s Rail Safety Committee; and the Transportation Research Board’s Transit Safety and Security Committee. Dave is a Colorado native originally from Pueblo, living in the Denver area since 1978. He has a Bachelor’s degree in geology from the University of Colorado at Boulder and a Master of Business Administration degree from Regis University.
The RTD General Manager Executive Search Committee will continue its process to find a permanent General Manager. As interim general manager, Genova will be eligible for consideration for the permanent position.
“I would like to thank the RTD Board for the confidence they have in me to lead the agency in the interim,” Genova said. “RTD is one of the top transit agencies in the country and I look forward to continuing our strong legacy of providing safe and reliable transportation to the metro area.”
RTD serves the Denver Metro area by offering safe, clean, reliable, courteous, accessible and cost-effective service in an eight-county service area while providing 100 million passenger trips annually.
