The Pioneer Valley Transit Authority (PVTA) has implemented fall service changes. Springfield area route changes started on Aug. 30 and changes to the Northampton area routes will begin on Sept. 6 and on Sept. 8 for Amherst area routes.
The service changes are derived from a Comprehensive Service Analysis (completed by Nelson Nygaard), public workshops and hearings, letters, emails, and voicemails. One of the goals of the CSA is for PVTA to operate as efficiently as possible.
“This is the third round of service improvements that PVTA has introduced. As a result, ridership has increased 6 percent (FY14 to FY15) and reached over 12 million annual riders. We anticipate that we will have a similar positive ridership response with these changes” said Mary L. MacInnes, PVTA administrator.
The service changes include 5 routes with additional service, 4 route changes, 4 routes with schedule changes, and 1 route with reduced frequency.
