Regional Transportation Commission Executive Director Lee Gibson will testify before Members of the United States Congress July 22 on “Building Economically Resilient Communities: Local and Regional Approaches.” Gibson is scheduled to appear before the U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Subcommittee on Housing, Transportation, and Community Development.

Gibson will testify to the RTC projects that are enhancing livability in the region by creating jobs and expanding economic development through transportation. RTC invests more than $350 million a year in regional street, highway and public transit projects, programs and services. The RTC transit system has an annual ridership of almost 8.5 million.

The executive director will also deliver remarks on the importance of ensuring the Highway Trust Fund has enough resources for future needs – as well as the need for improvements in funding bus maintenance, purchases and facilities. Additionally, he will speak to the need to streamline federal regulatory and permitting processes to avoid potentially costly construction delays.

Gibson is scheduled to testify in Washington, D.C. at the Dirksen Senate Office Building on July 22 in room 538. The hearing is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m. (Pacific Time).
