First Bus has announced the appointment of James Bowen as the company’s new finance director. Bowen, who has worked for First Bus for eight years and was most recently regional finance director for the business in South England and Wales, began his new role this month.
Giles Fearnley, managing director of First Bus, said, “James brings tremendous experience to the role and a fantastic track record. He will make a significant contribution to the team as we look to realise the many opportunities to improve and grow our business through our continuing transformation plan. I’m delighted that James has accepted the challenge. I’m confident that the bus division will benefit greatly from his financial and strategic expertise.”
Bowen said, “First Bus has an exciting future and the opportunity to be at the financial forefront of the business is an exceptional opportunity. I’m joining a tremendously talented and committed finance team and I’m looking forward to working with them and building on the solid foundations already in place.”
Bowen started his career with Ernst & Young where he qualified as a chartered accountant and worked in the UK and Australia. His career developed with senior finance roles in Compel Group PLC and the Royal Bank of Scotland PLC before joining First Bus in 2007. He progressed through the UK Bus Finance team, which included a period of time based in the headquarters in Aberdeen. Bowen lives in Bristol and is married with two young children.
Bowen will replace interim finance director, Chris Taft, who will remain with First Bus for a short period providing support for Bowen and the team.
