RTC’s Club Ride Members Save Most Commuting Costs to Date in 2015
The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada’s (RTC) Club Ride Commuter Services celebrated its most successful year in 2015 with 10,758 new members signing up to help promote the program’s mission to improve air quality. Club Ride users were able to save over $1.9 million in commuter costs last year by carpooling, vanpooling, riding transit, walking, bicycling, motorcycling, telecommuting, and working compressed work weeks, such as four 10-hour shifts.
Club Ride works directly with more than 300 employers in the Las Vegas Valley to establish custom commute programs and offer incentives that encourage commuters to try new modes of getting to work. As a result, Club Ride members saved $1.9 million this year on gas and vehicle maintenance. Club Ride users also eliminated 6.9 million vehicle miles from the valley’s roadways, which ultimately reduced 69.7 tons of carbon monoxide and 2,742 tons of greenhouse gases from Southern Nevada’s atmosphere.
“Club Ride is changing the community’s perception of alternative modes of transportation by making them more accessible and appealing to commuters,” said Tina Quigley, RTC general manager. “With greater participation, we are improving our air quality and saving commuters money.”
To top off an all-around great year, Club Ride received the 2015 Clean Air Excellence Award in the category of Community Action from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). This national award recognizes innovative state, local and private sector programs that protect health and the environment, educate the public, serve their communities and boost the economy.
Club Ride is designed to increase the community’s transportation options, a key goal of Southern Nevada Strong. As administrator of Southern Nevada Strong, the RTC is committed to initiatives that will support multiple modes of transportation and promote a greater use of alternative commuting options throughout the valley.
