Mountain Metropolitan Transit Wins Emissions Reduction Award
Mountain Metropolitan Transit (MMT) received the Southern Colorado Clean Cities Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reduction Award. In 2016 Mountain Metro reduced a total of 4,012,945 gasoline gallon equivalents and reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 49,430.4 tons. These totals were achieved through MMT’s idle-reduction initiatives, fuel economy improvement, and programs aimed at reducing vehicle miles traveled.
“The Southern Colorado Clean Cities coalition has been working locally to displace petroleum in the transportation sector and improve air quality for the benefit of public health and the environment. Mountain Metro’s efforts to reduce their emissions have been outstanding and we are pleased to present them with this award,” said Kyle Lisek, coordinator of the Southern Colorado Clean Cities Coalition.
The award was presented to MMT at the Odyssey Day Event in Boulder. Odyssey Day is a nationwide celebration conducted to educate the public about the importance of alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicles and to promote their widespread adoption.
“We’re very proud of this award. Saving over 4 million gallons of gasoline and reducing over 49 tons of greenhouse gas emissions has a significant impact on our community both in terms of air quality and personal health,” commented Craig Blewitt, director, Mountain Metropolitan Transit.
