Capital Metro to Increase MetroRapid Frequency and Weekend Service Hours

The Capital Metro board of directors have approved the proposed service changes for August 2017. By a unanimous vote, the board of directors adopted changes to Capital Metro’s service that will take effect August 20.

The Capital Metro board of directors have approved the proposed service changes for August 2017. By a unanimous vote, the board of directors adopted changes to Capital Metro’s service that will take effect August 20.  

The change that will have the most impact for riders, increasing the frequency of MetroRapid Routes 801 and 803, comes as the next phase of implementation of the Connections 2025 Transit Plan. Frequency will be increased on weekdays and weekends, and late-night service will be added on weekends.

MetroRapid Routes 801 and 803 will add frequency between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. on weekdays so that the service will run every 10 minutes. On weekends, both routes will run every 15 minutes from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Late-night service will operate at 20-minute frequencies until 3 a.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. On Sunday nights, both routes will operate at 20-minute frequencies until midnight.

Additional changes to Capital Metro service include:

School-Related Adjustments

Each fall, Capital Metro transitions UT Shuttle, E-Bus service and select trips on Local routes from summer schedules to in-school session service levels to accommodate the increased demand. 

UT Shuttles

All UT Shuttles will transition from summer schedules to full service based on university calendars. 

E-Bus Service

E-Bus service will be reinstated for the fall semester.

Select school-related weekday trips on the following routes will return:

  • 4 Montopolis 
  • 5 Woodrow/South 5th 
  • 7 Duval/Dove Springs 
  • 20 Manor/Riverside 
  • 300 Govalle 
  • 331 Oltorf 
  • 333 William Cannon  

Service Evaluation

Route 470: Manor Flex

Route 470 Manor Flex began operations in 2016 as a pilot program for service within the city of Manor. Now that the route has passed its first nine months of service, Capital Metro will take the opportunity to evaluate the route for possible adjustments to improve overall service efficiency.
