National Express Transit has been awarded the contract to operate the San Joaquin Regional Transit District commuter, intercity, and hopper services. NEXT took over operations on April 29, 2018 and is responsible for managing operations, scheduling, staffing and maintenance of the region-owned fleet.

“With our wealth of experience and expertise, we are confident that we will provide excellent service to the people of the Stockton metropolitan area, who rely on RTD,” said Judith Crawford, CEO of National Express Transit.

To enhance safe transportation, NEXT will add state-of-the-art technology to the fleet; this includes cameras on all vehicles and Wi-Fi for Commuter Express vehicles.

“We are pleased to have NEXT as our operating partner,” said Donna DeMartino, chief executive officer of RTD. “NEXT’s mission and core values are completely aligned with RTD, and I am certain they will provide a safe, reliable and efficient transportation system for the region.”

The Stockton metro area is the sixth location in California for NEXT, including the cities of Modesto, Vallejo, Manteca and Merced, as well as Kern County.
