CA: Crenshaw Boulevard Restoration Work Could Begin as Early as June 15

After four years of construction work on the Crenshaw/LAX Line’s three underground stations, work to restore and improve Crenshaw Boulevard could begin as early as June 15.

After four years of construction work on the Crenshaw/LAX Line’s three underground stations, work to restore and improve Crenshaw Boulevard could begin as early as June 15. The work will require three separate closures of parts of Crenshaw Boulevard between 48th Street and Exposition Boulevard.

The restoration process involves securing utility lines, removing the concrete decking that sits over each of the stations and then repaving the road. Metro’s contractor will also be rebuilding curbs, gutters, sidewalks and adding ramps that are compliant with the Americans With Disabilities Act.

The closure schedule is:

Crenshaw Boulevard will be closed between 43rd Street/Homeland Drive and 48th Street for 43 days from as early as June 15 to late July for work around the Leimert Park Station.

Traffic Control Officers

During the restoration work, Traffic Control Officers will be deployed at critical intersections to help manage traffic along detours and local access routes.

The Crenshaw/LAX Line is an 8.5-mile light rail line that will include eight new stations to serve the Crenshaw, Inglewood and LAX communities. The $2.058-billion project is expected to open in 2019. A ninth station will be added after opening to connect the Crenshaw/LAX Line, Green Line and bus lines to the future LAX automated people mover.
