RTC Expands High-Capacity Transit in Las Vegas Valley with 55 Buses from New Flyer
New Flyer of America Inc. has announced that the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada exercised options for two orders: one for 40 sixty-foot compressed natural gas and 15 forty-foot CNG Xcelsior heavy-duty transit buses (for a total of 95 equivalent units or “EUs”).
The buses represent executed options from New Flyer’s contract with RTC which began in 2015. New Flyer has delivered 146 Xcelsior CNG buses to RTC since 2013, of which 81 were high-capacity, sixty-foot transit buses.
“New Flyer is proud to be an innovator in the heavy-duty transit bus industry, increasing efficiency and reducing greenhouse gases with versatile propulsion solutions,” said Wayne Joseph, president of New Flyer of America. “We have a great relationship with the RTC and look forward to continuing that partnership with low-emission, high-capacity buses that improve transit mobility while eliminating emissions.”
RTC is a regional entity overseeing public transportation, traffic management, transportation and funding for Southern Nevada, and delivered over 63 million boardings in 2017 in the greater Las Vegas Valley.
New Flyer has been leading transit innovation for over 85 years. In 2017, it opened the Vehicle Innovation Center, the first and only innovation lab of its kind dedicated to advancing bus and coach technology, and in 2018 became the first bus manufacturer in the world to sign on to the Shared Mobility Principles for Livable Cities. It is the only provider of full suite bus solutions in North America, offering transit, motor coach, and low-floor cutaway buses.
