SEPTA Names Multilingual Constituent/Community Relations Coordinator
Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority has announced that Elvira Mendez has joined the public and government affairs division as the multilingual constituent/community relations coordinator to serve the growing Hispanic community in our region.
"I have had the pleasure of working with Ms. Mendez on a number of SEPTA initiatives within the Hispanic community and her insight and knowledge is invaluable to the Authority," said SEPTA General Manager, Jeffrey D. Knueppel. "We look forward to seeing her in this expanded role as she works to engage, inform, and grow our public outreach."
Mendez began her career with SEPTA in 2015 as the Outreach Coordinator for English as a Second Language (ESL) Communities in the Customer Service and Advocacy Division. In this role, she built relationships with government representatives, businesses, and other stakeholders to understand and address their transit needs and give SEPTA a voice in the ESL communities.
"This is a natural fit for Ms. Mendez who brings such passion to our diverse group of riders," said Assistant General Manager, Fran Kelly. "She is innovative and creative and we look forward to her implementing and leading even more programs for our communities."
Mendez received the Women of Excellence Award 2017 from SEPTA's Women in Transit (WIT). She was also honored with the Customer Service Shining Star Award for her dedication and passion to improving the customer experience.
Prior to coming to SEPTA, Mendez worked as a content manager for Latin American TV stations: with a focus on the Hispanic community. She also served as a business strategist for several international companies.
Mendez, who earned her degree in Linguistics from the University of Santiago de Compostela, has lived and worked in different countries and speaks five languages. She currently resides in Philadelphia.
