Chicago RTA Receives GFOA Distinguished Financial Report Award for 23rd Year in Row
The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting has been awarded to the Regional Transportation Authority by Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada for its comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR). The award is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.
“We are honored to receive this prestigious award for the 23rd consecutive year,” said Leanne Redden, executive director of the RTA. “It speaks to our commitment to providing financials that meet the highest standards of communication and accountability to the public.”
The RTA’s 2016 CAFR was rated “proficient” in 17 categories, qualifying our regional financial report to be an example for others throughout North America. The CAFR has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the report.
The Government Finance Officers Association is a nonprofit professional association serving nearly 18,000 government finance professionals throughout North America. The GFOA’s Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting is the only national awards program in governmental financial reporting.
