The Midlands Transit Organization is working to inform and transport people to vaccine locations.

The Central Midlands Regional Transit Authority (The COMET) has launched “Don’t Miss Your Shot,” a comprehensive campaign designed to inform and transport residents to major vaccination sites in Richland and Lexington Counties.

The campaign seeks to connect people who need and desire the COVID-19 vaccine to a transportation service offered by The COMET that best fits the individual’s situation. Transportation is free of charge for those eligible to receive the vaccine.

Through partnerships with the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (SCDHEC), area hospitals, housing organizations, senior adult service organizations and local governments, The COMET is getting the word out that lack of personal transportation must not be an impediment for receiving the vaccination against COVID-19.

A dedicated web page, www.COMETCovidHelp.org, radio, television, flyers, brochures, social media, billboards and in-person will be used as channels for messaging and detailed information on how to use The COMET transit services to get to vaccination locations.

The campaign is expected to run at a minimum through the end of 2021.

“There are people in our community who are the most affected by the ravages of COVID-19 – especially older adults, the disabled, minorities and the poor,” said John Andoh, executive director/CEO of The COMET. “Many of these individuals are dependent upon public transportation to help them access much needed health and wellness resources. The COMET family of services is here to help.”
