Passionate about transit safety? FTA is accepting nominations for re-established TRACS

The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) is seeking nominations for up to 25 individuals from the public transportation safety community to serve as members on the Transit Advisory Committee for Safety (TRACS).

“The FTA is seeking some of the top experts in the transit industry to help keep millions of daily rail transit riders safe," said FTA Administrator Nuria Fernandez. “Once selected, these professionals will help inform our safety agenda for transit systems across the nation."

FTA formally announced the re-establishment of TRACS through a Federal Register notice on Jan. 18, 2022. The new TRACS charter will be effective for two years from the date it is filed with Congress. The new TRACS charter calls for the review of current challenges and innovations in public transportation and provides recommendations that FTA can implement in support of transit safety. On Feb. 7, 2022, FTA will publish a Federal Register notice inviting qualified individuals interested in serving as TRACS members for a two-year term. The application information will be available on the TRACS webpage.

TRACS provides information, advice and recommendations on matters relating to the safety of U.S. public transportation systems as determined by the secretary of Transportation and the FTA administrator. TRACS will comprise a panel of professionals representing a variety of stakeholders and interests to cooperatively address transit safety by recommending solutions.

Applicants should be knowledgeable of trends and issues related to rail transit and/or bus transit safety. Along with their experience in the rail transit and/or bus transit industry, applicants will also be evaluated and selected based on factors including leadership and organizational skills, region of the country represented and the overall balance of industry representation.
