Caltrans Executive Named one of California’s CIOs of the Year

The California Public CIO Academy has named Caltrans Chief Information Officer George Akiyama as one of two CIOs of the year. Akiyama is being recognized for his ongoing dedication and commitment to the State of California’s information technology initiatives.
Akiyama was appointed as Caltrans’ chief information officer by Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. in 2015. In this position, Akiyama leads and provides oversight for the full range of information technology functions, develops policies and the strategic direction for information technology for Caltrans. George started his state career in 1995 and has held various positions throughout the state, including chief information officer of the financial Information System for California (FI$Cal) Project.
Akiyama holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and a Master of Business Administration from California State University, Sacramento.
