New Flyer of America Inc. has announced that its battery-electric, zero-emission Xcelsior CHARGE demonstration bus will visit the University of Colorado in Boulder, Colorado this week for the university’s Alternative Fuel Vehicle Ride-n-Drive event.

The event, hosted by the University of Colorado, Boulder’s Parking and Transportation Services, will occur on Friday, May 18 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the university’s Sustainability, Energy and Environment Complex (“S.E.E.C.”) off of Discovery Drive.

The bus will offer rides to those in attendance, and staff from both UC and New Flyer will be on hand to answer any questions about the bus. Other vehicles in attendance include a Chevy Bolt, a Nissan Leaf, multiple BMW models, electric work vehicles from GEM, and Club Car and multiple e-Bike models from Full Cycle and Small Planet EBikes.

“New Flyer’s zero-emission demonstration bus program is just one example of our commitment to helping develop sustainable, efficient, and smart mobility,” said Wayne Joseph, president, New Flyer of America. “We’ve had electric propulsion on our buses for over 50 years, starting with electric-trolleys and launching our first all battery-electric bus in 2012, resulting in today’s industry-leading Xcelsior CHARGE. Our buses comply with international charging standards, ensuring interoperability for transit authorities. This makes transit operation more efficient and connected, and also facilitates less wasted infrastructure. We’re not waiting for the future to happen, we are shaping it today.”

The University of Colorado first opened its doors in 1876 and has continued to provide collaborative research, innovation, and entrepreneurship throughout the state. Its Parking and Transportation department provides cost-effective transportation for the university community, delivering approximately one million boardings per year for Colorado University students, faculty, staff, and dignitaries who use the “Buff Bus” to navigate campus.
